The Zingaro Oriented Nature Reserve encompasses the spectacular rocky coastline of northwest Sicily, with dozens of secluded coves and beaches set amongst unspoiled Mediterranean vegetation. This protected area is best-suited for nature lovers seeking excellent hiking and appreciating outstanding natural scenery.
What to Do
- 🏞️ Hiking trails – There are two main coastal trails spanning the length of the reserve, with various paths down to small beaches tucked between the cliffs. The trails are 7km on the northern side and 5km along the southern section.
- 🏖️Beaches and swimming – Clear turquoise waters and mostly pebble beaches with incredible views. Great for relaxing, sunbathing, and swimming. Watch out for occasional jellyfish.
- 🤿Snorkeling – Excellent snorkeling among the rocky coastline and caves reveals colorful fish and sea life.
- 🚣Boat tours – Taking a boat allows you to access the reserve’s beaches easily without the sometimes challenging hikes.
No visitor facilities within the reserve itself – be sure to wear proper shoes, bring plenty of water, food, sun protection.
Where to Eat
There are no dining options within the Zingaro Reserve itself, so come prepared with snacks and water. In Scopello village at the southern entrance and San Vito Lo Capo to the north, you’ll find excellent seafood restaurants and pizzerias. We especially recommend checking out La Tavernetta and Il Formatissimo in San Vito.
Where to Stay
The nearby village of Castelluzzo offers several excellent B&B options just a 10 minute drive from Zingaro Reserve, while the beach town San Vito Lo Capo is about 15 minutes north. We highly recommend the Torre Salina B&B in Castelluzzo for its warm hospitality, spectacular views, and delicious homemade breakfasts.
Parking
Parking is available at both entrances but fills up early. Arrive before 10am in peak season for a spot, especially on weekends.
